Hello, everyone!

I've been away for awhile rounding up some awesome professionals in the movie, video game and comic book art fields, with the intent of opening an entertainment art school in Denver, Colorado.

For those of you who know the Denver area, we are renting out the second floor of a huge warehouse/gallery in the Santa Fe Art District (841 Santa Fe Drive to be specific) and building it into classrooms.  Our first term starts in March, and includes classes on comic book publishing, character and creature design for movies, video games, and comics, action anatomy, animal anatomy, jewelry prop making for movies, monster makeup and monster mask making.

Each term, our list of teachers and classes will grow, and I have some fantastic teachers waiting in the wings for when our computer lab is up, so they can teach the professional programs that get people work in the various entertainment fields.

The goal of the school is to let students learn the skills they want to learn to get into the entertainment field, and to help them create portfolios that will get them hired.  This is unlike most expensive art colleges, that shoehorn everyone onto cookie cutter classes, charge them upwards of $15,000 per term, then send them on their way with sub-par portfolios and a $100,000 bachelor's degree that won't get them work.

The school is called the Denver Entertainment Art & Design Academy, or the DEAD Academy for short.  Our phone number is 720-354-0264.  Our email address is dead.academy.q@gmail.com.

Our web site is www.deadacademy.com  Our FB page is [link] you know anyone who might be interested in our school, please forward the information!

If you have any questions, you can ask me here, as well.

Thanks!

Thanks to those who participated!  You won't be disappointed.

Also, I've just signed a contract to work on a graphic novel for a potential movie.  80 pages of sci-fi/horror goodness.  Sadly, I can't say anything about it, but once it's ready I'll let you know.

In the meantime, the first three issues of my comic series LAZARUS: The Many Reincarnations are for sale digitally, on all platforms (pc, mac, tablets, smart phones, etc) for only $0.99 each!  All three are less than a Starbucks drink!  And we're talking about 90+ pages of art for $2.98!  You'll find them here: [link]

Thanks!

Hello, everyone!  Happy Holidays!

For the first week of December, I am selling deeply discounted commission slots for holiday gifts (or personal gifts)!!!  I can only hold this sale for a week, because I am guaranteeing the commissions will be done by December 22nd, and I don't want to rush them.  I have between 10 and 15 slots available, depending on how quickly they go (if people buy early, I'll have 15, if they buy closer to December 7th, I'll only have 10 due to time constraints.

So what's the deal?  Lately I've been selling my single character, full body, full color commissions for between $150-250 depending on the level of detail, if they have backgrounds, etc.  Between December 1st and December 7th I am offering those same commissions for $75-100, which is basically my usual down-payment price.  But any orders placed in that week will be illustrated and completed before December 22nd for only the down payment amount of $75-100!

Commissions will be completed in the order they are received.  Down payment and a complete description of the character will need to get into my paypal account between December 1 and December 7.

You can choose between 2 styles of commissions:

1) Completely digital illustration: [link]
2) Pencil drawing colored in Photoshop: [link]

If you want a second character, add $50.

If you have any questions, post them here or send me a note.

Thanks!

Since I started posting a few 'pop culture' drawings in my gallery (comic book, WoW, etc) my page count has started to go up a lot faster.  And because of that, I have to start thinking about what I'm going to draw for my 50,000 pageview landmark.

Thought I'd get some feedback from my Watchers... what do you think?

Hello!

I am going to test something out here...

When I come up with my commission prices, I usually factor in the time it will take me to do the commission (including set-up, reference hunting, and a whole bunch of other minor factors) and try to come up with a price to make it worth my while, and enticing enough to drag me away from other work.

But I think I'm going to try something new and see how it works.  I am a very, very fast artist.  I can get a really good pencil drawing done in an hour because I have decades of intense practice behind me.  In fact, most of the pencil commissions I've done for people have taken less than an hour to draw.  I think most of the images in this gallery [link] took an hour or less to draw, and I was charging $60 for a full body pencil drawing.

I've decided to give people the chance to get drawings out of me for only $30!!!!!  Half the price I was charging.

Here are the rules:

* Pencil drawings only (though if I do a pencil drawing for you and you love it, I will ink it for another $30)
* Single character
* I choose the pose
* I will spend an hour on it.
* Characters can be yours, mine, or something from pop culture (comic books, etc)
* I will do my best to have a complete drawing, but can't guarantee it will happen in an hour if the subject is too complex
* I will send you a high-res digital scan for free.  If you want the original artwork, include $3 for shipping/handling
* Must be pre-paid in full via paypal.  When you send, DO NOT send as a payment because they charge me a fee!  There are ways to send money via paypal so I don't get charged.  Just make the payment type "Personal" and the reason "Other."
* First come, first served.  Your commission will be done in the order I received it.
* Right now there are a limited number of slots.  I haven't decided how many, but I'll cut it off if I start to feel it isn't working.  I will finish every commission I was paid for.

This may be for a limited time only, so take advantage of it while you can!

So I want to make a new comic book series.  If I did, would any of you buy it?

I have some really cool models that are playing the parts of some of the characters.  Models that are going to dress up like the characters and have professional photo shoots done of them.

The setting is futuristic, it has a big robot, a Sisterhood of genetically modified spies and assassins, super powerful corporations with their own armies, lots of neat futuristic equipment, weapons and vehicles, and lots more!

But I need a couple bucks to make this thing happen, so I'm offering lots of cool prizes like Limited Edition signed art prints, exclusive photo prints of the models dressed as the characters, original artwork, and lots more for those people willing to kick in a little bit of money to help this thing become a reality!  Also, everyone who contributes will get a credit in the comic as proof that YOU WERE THERE IN THE BEGINNING!  YOU HELPED MAKE IT ALL HAPPEN!

So if you want to lend a hand, go to this site, watch the awesome video (with art by me) and pledge a few bucks.  You won't be charged until August 22nd, and then only if we reach our fundraising goal by the deadline!

[link]

We also have a Facebook Fan Page that you should go LIKE so you can receive word of the upcoming new photos, videos and art of the models and characters.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for any help you can give!  If you don't have funds, spreading the word is really helpful as well!

It feels like it's taken forever for things to start falling into place, but suddenly things are all happening at once!

THE RETURN OF MY OLD COMIC SERIES, "LAZARUS:THE MANY REINCARNATIONS" - REMASTERED WITH NEW ARTWORK!

Years ago, I published a comic book series called LAZARUS: The Many Reincarnations, a full color fantasy/horror comic book series, for seven issues.  Unfortunately, I released it at a time when the comic book industry was in serious decline and couldn't get enough retailers to take a chance on a book illustrated by a "nobody" at the time.  Also, due to tight deadlines and having to do both the creative and business work myself, the art suffered in places...

Over the past few months, I've been re-drawing the panels I didn't like, vastly improving the artwork where it needs it, and re-coloring the books.  I've signed with a digital distribution company, and the first two issues of the series are NOW AVAILABLE through their site!  Once you set up an account and download the issues, you can view them on your computer, laptop, tablets and smart phones!  And they look great digitally!  They are even high enough resolution that you can zoom in to look at small details, and the App allows you to leave messages and notes for other fans (and me) to read.

It's really easy to do.

First, you download the FREE Adobe AIR program here: [link]

Then you download the FREE Graphic.ly Comic Book Reader App here: [link]

And then you find my comics here: [link]

Almost 40 pages of my artwork in each comic!  Tons of my stuff you've never seen!  Issue 1 is only $0.99 and Issue 2 is only $1.99!  Subsequent issues are on their way!!!

RAISING FUNDS FOR MY NEW COMIC SERIES - "CYBERTOOTH" WITH VALUABLE EXCLUSIVE PRIZES AND THE CHANCE TO SCORE ORIGINAL ARTWORK!

After 10 years away from comics, I've decided to produce another comic series, but I need your help!  Any pledges of $2 to $1000 will net you some great swag and help us raise the money needed to create the innovations necessary to give this series the kind of cutting edge graphics and features I envision it having.  There is a cool video that tells about the project, with new art you have probably never seen, and some amazing models attached to the project that you may or may not be aware of, but who are making some serious waves in the alternative fashion photography industry.

Here's a link to the video trailer and Kickstarter.com pledge page:  [link]

Pledge, get yourself a cool exclusive prize, and show the world that you were there at the beginning, helping to make this thing happen!  You will have my appreciation and I will thank you in the back of the book!

NEW WEB SITE IS UP!!!!

I have a new web site for my art and business that has a lot of new information about what I'm up to.  It has exclusive art and information about my various projects.  Go check it out!!!

There is so much more in my sketchbooks and on my computer that I can't post because they either belong to projects I have been working on that have Non-Disclosure Agreements, or they are my own projects in development and I don't want the ideas "borrowed" and used like some have been in the past.  It's kind of frustrating because there is some really cool stuff that is beyond the stuff you see here that I just can't show.  I do have some pretty cool stuff I plan to put up soon, so keep your eyes open.

Does anyone actually read these things?  I rarely update my Journal Entries because nobody ever replies to them.

Thanks to all the new Watchers who have been joining.  That Typical Drow piece brought a lot of new people to my page, which is awesome.

Thanks,

Zak Hennessey

Hey everybody!  I have ten commission slots open at a really good price.

COMMISSION TYPE----------Old Price---------New Price
Head/Bust Pencils----------$30----------------$20
Head/Bust Colors-----------$60----------------$40
Full Body Pencils----------$75----------------$50
Full Body Colors-----------$150---------------$110

Full Body images come with an abstract background of some sort, nothing fancy.
A more complex background can be added for $15 (bw) or $30 (color)

Commissions $50 and under should be paid in full up front.  Commissions above $50 need half up front.

This is a very limited time offer.  If my non-DA clients knew how little I was charging here... they'd want to know why it's so cheap and they pay so much more... but it's because they have money and people on DA always seem so broke...

So get on it!  While there are still slots!

They have massively overhauled the website for Gathering of Heroes, the movie I have been working on for well over a year now.  It's looking pretty cool, and they keep adding to it all the time.  It has links to the trailers, as well.  Most of the art on it is mine, as well, som of which hasn't appeared on DeviantArt.

Hope you enjoy!

Hey everyone,

I'm putting up new (well, old) art up at [link] :iconsw-artists-guild: that you may not have seen before.  It's all Star Wars stuff I did years ago when I was an active member of SWAG (Star Wars Artists Guild).  I have a couple dozen images I'll be putting up over time, so check back often if you like Star Wars and want to see my artistic interpretations of it.

Thanks!

As much as it kills me to do so, I've had to place one of the prizes of my collection up on eBay because my car died this week and I need some cash.  If this book doesn't sell, I'm not going to re-list it, I'll see it as a sign that I should just keep it.

The item is the impossible to find Arthur Adams Sampler Vol. 1, released at the San Diego comic con in 2002, and sold out for years.  It is signed by the man himself, and contains 50 pages of illustrations.  I have no idea what it might sell for, because I can't find anyone who is selling it anywhere, for any price.  Here's what my eBay description says:

This is a rare convention sketchbook called "An Arthur Adams Sampler Vol. 1," signed by the man himself at the San Diego Comic Con in 2002.  Anyone who follows Art Adams knows that this sketchbook is almost impossible to find, and it has been a prized showcase piece of my collection since I was fortunate enough to get it.  No folds, creases, scratches, dents or dings.  Corners are all sharp and spine is flawless.  It kills me that I have to sell this, but money is tight and a need for immediate funds has prompted me.  That being the case, the winning bid would need to be able to send funds via paypal quickly.  I can't wait for payments by mail or e-checks.  If I could, I wouldn't have to sell this.

This is your opportunity to acquire an impossible-to-find piece of comic book history - the FIRST sketchbook sampler by the master himself.  I've searched the web, to get an idea of what I could expect to charge for this, and NOBODY has any, anywhere!  Miss this chance, and it could haunt you forever!

Inside are drawings of beautiful women, iconic comic book heroes, character re-design sheets, page layouts and sexy pinups, all in Art Adams' amazing style.  As I flip through the pages, I'm tempted to keep the book and find another way to get the cash.  It's way too cool to let slip through my fingers.  And to keep the integrity of the spine, I can't even scan the images to keep for later, because that would damage the prime condition of the book.

The sampler is 50 pages long, plus a double-sided cover with more artwork inside and out.  Notable characters include Jonni Future, Hulk, She-Hulk, Longshot (and cast), Wolverine, Godzilla, Vampirella (lots), a naughty Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty), a bunch of horror babes (female Dracula, Frankenstein, Creature from Black Lagoon), Poison Ivy, Big Barda, Batwoman, Catwoman, Wonder Woman, Medusa, Red Sonja, and other miscellaneous babes and monsters.

A smart collector will know what a treasure this is, so I will be willing to use any shipping method the winner requests and is willing to pay for (insurance as well).  I will wrap the book securely in tough cardboard and bubble wrap for optimal protection at no extra cost.  Anything more will add on to the price.  If you opt out of insurance and the book gets damaged after it leaves my hands, I can't give a refund, because of the rareness of this item.  I'm not looking to profit on s&h, so what you pay for is what you get.  I will demand Certified Mail or other guaranteed delivery method.  There can be no allowances for errors on this item.

The Auction can be found here: [link]

_______________________________________________________

If you're an Art Adams fan, and you don't have this sketchbook, this might be your one chance to pick it up.  But there are just under two days left on the auction, so you'd have to act soon.

Thanks,

Zak

Most of you following me are aware that I've been doing the artwork for a low budget movie called Gathering of Heroes: Legend of the Seven Swords with Asgard Entertainment.  Some of the artwork is scattered around here and at my other gallery over here :iconlazarusreturns: so hopefully this is ringing a bell...

Anyway, there is a teaser up on youtube here: [link] for any of you wanting to take a look at it.  No, it doesn't have anywhere near the budget of Lord of the Rings (in fact, they probably had a bigger budget for just their prosthetic elf ears than we did for the whole movie) but hey, the whole point is to put out an entertaining movie and take that first step into making our own films.  It's more than most people ever accomplish in their lives, right?

Hope you guys enjoy it.

Just got back from an out-of-state funeral for my father, and it wiped me out financially between the trip and funeral expenses.  This has put me in a state of (hopefully temporary) financial crisis.

Thus, I am offering discounts on my commissions for anyone who is ready and willing to go ASAP.  I don't know what the discounts are at the moment, but I am willing to work with you to get what you want at a good price.

So if you've been considering getting a commission, or were afraid the prices were too high, this might be the time for you.  It would help me out greatly to get the extra work, and I would appreciate it.

If you are interested, send me a note and I'll get back to you asap.

Thanks,

Zak

Hey everyone!

Want to be drawn as a zombie??!!  (Yes, of course you do!)

I just got back from San Diego Comic Con and it was a lot of fun.  While I was there, I shared a booth with an artist named Stan Yan, who came up with the idea of drawing con-goers as zombies, and not only was it a big hit, but it was a heck of a lot of fun.  So I decided to offer the same service to my loyal DA followers (or, really, anyone interested).

Basically, if you're interested, I would need the following:

1. A picture of you (and anyone else to be in the drawing), preferably with the expression you want to have in the drawing, but not mandatory.

2. Any special requests as to specific zombie wounds, cause of death, infestation, etc. is welcome, but if you don't provide it, I'll just use my imagination.  Mwahahahahhahahaha.

2. Black and white (inked) drawings are $25 per head, can be upgraded to grayscale and bloody (red colored gore) for an extra $15 per head.

3.  An address to send the drawing to.  YES!  You get an original drawing on paper, not a digital image!  (But you can scan it if you want).

People were so thrilled by their drawings, that they dragged their friends back to get one, too.  I'll have some to post at some point, but Stan has all the photos on his camera, so I can't post them until he sends them to me.

YES, I will draw couples romantically chewing on each others' faces.
YES, I you can have as many friends in the drawing as you want, as long as you pay the per-head price.
YES, you get an original piece of artwork mailed to you (if you live outside of the US, I'll need you to cover postage over $1 US.
YES, this is cheaper than my usual drawing rates, but that's because I have a face to look at, so it speeds up the creative process for me.
YES, you can use this drawing for your Holiday Cards.  (One couple bought a drawing just for that purpose).
YES, you can use this drawing as your Wedding Invitations (as another couple said they were going to).
YES, they make awesome birthday presents for friends - just send me a picture of them.

Any questions, feel free to ask!

I have two items that I'm offering to the DA community before I go off to the San Diego comic con and sell them off.  Any leftovers will hopefully be going through Diamond Distributors.  But you guys have the first shot to get these before anyone else.

LAZARUS: The Many Reincarnations Issues 1-7 ($15 + $3 S/H)

I've cracked open my personal boxes of LAZARUS: The Many Reincarnations, the comic book series I self published a few years ago, and I'm putting them into a set for sale.  The series ran for seven issues, originally $3 a piece, but I'm selling the set for only $15 (a $6 saving).  Add $3 for shipping (continental U.S. only), and you can own the series for $18.

I'll sign the copies as well.  There are a very limited number of these sets left, and once they're gone, that's it.  I intend to be famous one day, so these will definitely be worth something.

Zak Hennessey's 2009 Sketchbook  ($10 + $3 S/H)

My first ever sketchbook, filled with lots of pencil sketches and ink jobs that have never been posted on DA (and some of my better DA pieces in their original sketch stages).  There is a VERY limited number of these and they will be sold out after comic con, but as I said, I'm giving you guys first shot at getting one.

IF YOU BUY BOTH for $25, or buy enough copies to put your total over $25, I'll ship them for free (continental U.S. only!  Shipping to some foreign countries can be really expensive, but I'm willing to do it if you're willing to pay shipping costs).

IF YOU'RE INTERESTED send me a NOTE with your DA name, your real name, your address, what you want to buy, and if you intend to pay by check or paypal.  If you're paying by paypal, send a message with your payment telling me who you are on DA, so I know I'm sending it to the right person.  If you're paying by check, I'll send you my PO Box info.

Thanks, the more I can sell here, the less I have to haul to San Diego!
